Coconuts Beach Club is back after the devastating tsunami!

Coconuts Beach Club, Resort and Spa has completed the guest areas at the resort including a complete makeover of the pool area with new thatch umbrellas and a state of the art water feature, plus an extension of the outdoor restaurant area which now has small booth style seating areas closer to the beach.

The rooms are back online and fully renovated with the exception of the Over Water Fales which were destroyed the tsunami. The plan is to rebuild them in 2012.

The resort is offering a year round Stay 5 pay 4 nights and a stay 7 pay 5 nights for sales and travel till 31 Mar 12

On 22 October, the entire Coconuts team, along with many of our
family and friends, celebrated the twentieth anniversary of the
opening of the Original Beach Club – the forerunner of Coconuts
Beach Club Resort & Spa. At that time, the Beach Club consisted
only of the Bar, Kitchen, Palm Terrace, and Public Bathrooms. We
have indeed come a very long way in twenty years!
We were so pleased to have a very distinguished list of family,
friends, and dignitaries joining us in our wonderful celebration.
The keynote speech was delivered by none other than the Prime
Minister of Samoa, and the Pastor of the Maninoa Methodist
Church provided a lovely blessing. This wonderful celebration
took place in and around our brand new Dining Room, which is
now bigger and better! We enjoyed a wonderful feast followed
by a traditional Fiafia celebration from our neighboring village. It
was truly a wonderful day and a great celebration for Coconuts.
We have been VERY busy at Coconuts! In the month of October, we
were able to finish construction of the new roof over the swim-up
bar. This is a traditional, thatched roof that is similar to the one that
was there before, however, it is now quite a bit higher and very
dramatic. Work will continue to be done in and around the pool
area, as we construct new thatched-roof shade fales.
The construction of our new Office facility continues, and we hope
to be completed with this project by December 15. It will be a
welcome relief to be able to centralize our office activities in one
place instead of the two temporary locations we currently use. We
will also be starting to build our new Reception in about two weeks. It is anticipated that we will work on both
the reception and the office building at the same time since they are located quite close to each other.

In the meantime, we are happy to say that we have been running at full capacity with a lot of Returning Nuts .
Despite the occasional minor distraction due to the construction activity, we are so happy to be receiving very

The Moorings Hotel offers a ‘Black Magic Cultural Night’

Visitors to Port Vila, Vanuatu beware – black magic is alive in the city! The Moorings Hotel has just launched their Melanesian Cultural Night featuring a black Magic demonstration by a real-life ‘kleva’. The 30 minute black magic show is the feature act of the Melanesian night show & buffet which also includes kava tasting (yes – it really does taste like dirty water), talks on Melanesian cultural traditions from the hotel staff and a sumptuous traditionally prepared Melanesian buffet.

Guests are asked to arrive at 6pm but get there early to be treated to a spectacular sunset over the Port Vila harbour from the hotel deck. Kava tasting is first off, with the full effect of the kava kicking in around the same time as the black magic show begins. Guests shouldn’t expect to see expensive production values with lots of smoke and mirrors but the simplicity of the show and the raw performance by the genuine practitioners of this ancient craft will have the hair standing up on the back of your neck. What many overseas visitors don’t realise is that black magic is still very much alive and practised in Vanuatu – both for good and for evil uses. This is the real deal.

THE WHALE SEASON AT FAFA IN TONGA !!

UPDATE FROM FAFA ISLAND RESORT
This season of whale watching is very successful as we are having stable weather and plenty of whales. Guests at the resort are able to go out 3 times a week on the Sea Star (the resort manager’s sailing yacht). Many guests swim with the whales and told us that this was ‘the experience of a lifetime’ for them

There was plenty to see with many mothers with calves in the vicinity, rivalery fights and plenty of jumping and tail flapping. Normally the mother and calf stay with the boat for more than an hour giving guests an exceptional experience viewing their behaviour. In the beginning the calves are curious and want to come close to the boat to inspect and the mother gently pushes them away to protect them but after a while they get comfortable being close to the boat.

The whale watching trips leave 3 times per week at 10 am returning at 4pm with our Swiss skipper who is very experienced and an expert on whales.

Whale season is from June to November.

UPDATE

15 September 2010

Talofa to all of our dear Friends!

I am very happy to report that Coconuts Beach Club has reached a major milestone in our rebuilding efforts. We have now fully completed the rebuilding and remodeling of all of our land-based accommodations! Just this week, we have finished renovating the final Beach Fales. For those of you who know Samoa so well, you will really appreciate the fact that we have completed these renovations well ahead of schedule! The completion of the last Beach Fale – Fale F – means that we now have twenty accommodations that are complete and ready for our guests. In fact, we have been running at as close to 100% occupancy as we can get for the past couple of months, and it looks like that trend will continue over the next couple of months.

However, our resort construction work is not complete, so our reopening Special will remain in place for the remainder of this year. Our plan is to start building our beautiful new office facility on September 6th. To date, we have been working out of two temporary offices, so we are all looking forward to our new facility – a beautiful structure that Robert Ross has designed, together with a new and impressive entry to Coconuts Beach Club. We anticipate a construction period of about 10 weeks to completion, however, as with all of our construction to date, the comfort and enjoyment of our in-house guests will take the highest priority.

Following the Office Building we plan to build our new Reception, Gift Shop and Lounge Room - Fale Afa – in that sequence. We already have detailed plans for all of these structures, and will soon determine the construction schedule once we are underway with the Office Building.

While we are building the Office Building, we will also be finishing up work on the “lakes”, the beautiful water feature in front of the Treehouse, as well as rebuilding the dining room of the restaurant. We anticipate having the Dining Room open in approximately four weeks.

With our land-based accommodations completely rebuilt and remodeled, we will soon begin to focus on rebuilding our wildly popular Over-the-Water Fales in the very near future. Stay tuned for more details.

Here are some new pictures of the grounds, Villas and the Beach Fales, with special emphasis on the newly opened One-Bedroom Beach Fales.

We want to thank all of our recent guests who have been enjoying themselves at Coconuts. It is spending time with wonderful people from around the world that helps make all of this very hard work seem so worthwhile. Update – 18 July 2010

Talofa!
We have some exciting news to share with you from Coconuts Beach Club Resort & Spa.
Since we re-opened Coconuts in mid-February, we have been so pleased to welcome many
new guests, along with many of our very loyal Returning Nuts. We have been operating at
capacity for some time now, and are happy to report that guests are loving the ‘new’
Coconuts. Here is a typical response from a recent guest:

I just wanted to say big personal Fa'afetai tele lava to you all for lovely
hospitality that we received at Coconuts last week. Sam and I had an
absolute fantastic time and loved every moment of it right from when we were
picked up from the Airport to our pedicures to when we were delivered right
back there to come home. The memories are priceless!!!!

Can you please pass on a big Fa'afetai also to Lina, Spider, Tala,Tara,
John, Sione and I cant remember the lady’s name but she made awesome
margaritas in the pool bar, they are a great asset to your resort and are so
lovely and welcoming and they make the experience so warming.

Our experience at Coconuts was a lot more then we expected and we are so
happy we decided to stay at Coconuts. We will be definitely back soon (maybe
after the credit card is paid off). The resort is looking fantastic and I can’t wait to come back and see it when it is all completed.

INFRASTRUCTURE

I know, I know. Infrastructure news is boring. However, it is the very important infrastructure
that allows us to operate Coconuts efficiently and effectively. I am quite pleased to report that
we have achieved a few significant milestones in the rebuilding of our infrastructure. We now
have a totally new electrical system in place, one that was specifically designed to service the
existing resort structure, as well as handle the new additions that we have for our future –
including our yet to be finalized addition of six new Over-the-Water Fales (now that is some
exciting news in itself!). The old electrical system was designed for a bar, restaurant and a
couple of shacks on the beach – sort of what we originally had in mind when we started
Coconuts. Our new system is much more modern and able to handle higher capacity. What’s
more, we now have in place a new generator that allows us to handle those (frequent)
power outages.

We also have in place a new water system that includes water tanks. This new system, and
new tanks now give us triple the capacity of our previous system.

We are very happy to report that move-in has started in our recently completed new Staff
Housing. We still have some work to be completed on the housing, which will involve the
beautification aspects of this building, which should be completed over the next month or so.

FALES
Now this is exciting news!

We have made tremendous progress in rebuilding and repairing our Fales, and obtaining new
furniture and furnishings. So much so, that we have significantly moved up the new opening
dates for our Fales!

Two Bedroom Beach Fales
We previously projected that Fale A and Fale B (our two 2-bedroom Beach Fales) would be
ready for new bookings starting on September 2, 2010. Well, I am happy to say that we have
been able to advance that date and we are going to open both of them for bookings starting
on August 2, 2010

One Bedroom Beach Fales
Having previously projected that these fales would also start to open up for bookings on
September 2, 2010, we are pleased to announce that we have been able to advance that date.
On August 2, 2010 we will open the first One-Bedroom Beach Fale (Fale C) for new bookings,
and we hope to open additional One-Bedroom Beach Fales once every month thereafter.

VILLAS

Not one, not two, but all three villas will be open starting August 2, 2010!!

GLP Hotels is offering an ‘all inclusive’ option as well as a ‘room only’ option at Le Nouvata Hotel and L’Escapade Island Resort. The other hotels within the group namely Le Pacifique, Le Parc and La Promenade will remain ‘room only’.

Le Nouvata hotel is located at the Nouvata Parc Complex across from the Anse Vata beaches in Noumea, and offers 73 recently refurbished Superior rooms. The rooms have air-conditioning, bath and shower, iron and ironing board, tea/coffee making facilities, in room safes, full mini bar, television with English channels, IDD telephone, and internet connection.

L’Escapade Island Resort is located on a small 7 hectare private island only 20 mins by boat from Port Moselle in Noumea. The island is surrounded by a marine reserve and offers 25 Luxury Overwater Bungalows and 44 Island Bungalows.

All rooms have air-conditioning, hairdryer, iron and ironing board, in-room safes. full mini bar, television with English channels, IDD telephone, and internet connection. There are showers in the Island Bungalows.

Overwater Bungalows have baths and separate showers. Kings size beds, lounge, private balcony with staircase to lagoon and VIP personalized treatment

There are regular free transfers by boat to and from the island to Port Moselle daily. Bus transfers are free when combining your stay with one of the Noumea based hotels.

The all inclusive room rates at both properties include breakfast, lunch and dinner plus a 1000xfp drink voucher at each. Lunch and dinner can be buffet or 3 courses a la carte for up to two adults. Amunuca Island Resort and Spa is now under the new management of Inspire Destinations Inc Hong Kong who are in the process of taking full ownership of the resort.
Receivers were appointed to Aanuka Island Resort Ltd (In Receivership) trading as Amunuca Island Resort and Spa in November 2008 to facilitate the sale of the property.
John Stavrou has been appointed by Inspired Destinations Inc Limited Hong Kong as the new General Manager of the resort and commenced on 1 April 2010.

The resort re-opened on 1 April 2010 and John can confirm that the resort is fully operational and that past technical issues surrounding the generators building have been fully addressed and that critical parts have been ordered in reserve to ensure that steady power is supplied to the resort. They have also hired a specialist team whose sole responsibility is the maintenance of the generators 24/7.

Management are currently upgrading services and facilities and have hired a 5 star Executive Chef from Europe who will lift the level of F&B to a very high standard and staff have been hand picked by John for the resort. They are also re-thatching the whole resort including all bures, to the cost of $1 million, and should be complete by end July 10.

John states “Our aim is to create a vacation experience that will provide a high level of comfort to our wholesalers, so they can sell Amunuca with complete confidence. It is our aim to make Amunuca the preferred resort for wholesalers and travel agents. Guests satisfaction is top on the list!!! “

Amunuca Island Resort is located in the Mamanuca Islands within easy reach of Denarau Marina and has a white sand beach with swimming and snorkeling straight off the beach and John adds ” We also take our responsibility for the environment very seriously. Over the next few months we will implement many programs to promote the health of the beaches and coral reefs. This Island is beautiful and we intend on keeping that way for many years to come. “

First Landing has a F$700,000 Facelift

First Landing Beach Resort and Nalamu Villas has just undergone a F$700,000 refurbishment which includes a resurfaced pool and pool surround, new toilets next to the pool and new wooden pool loungers and cushions.

The resort’s 33 bures have been given new curtains and soft furnishings with light coloured painted walls which lighten the bures up, plus the ensuite bathrooms have been re-tiled and upgraded. The bures have been re-thatched, as have all the walkways, in keeping with the resort’s authentic Fijian feel.

The bar has been extended closer to the sea, with new furniture, and they have introduced a new bar menu and a new “Big Foot BBQ” in bar area serving fresh fish from F$15 or a 400g from F$27.
